Description: Hello. My name is Lenore Lamont Zissermann and I have published a memoir about the lives of my White Russian husband Dimitry ("Mitya") and his family while they lived in or near the historically unique city of Harbin, China, during the 1940s and 1950s. I wondered if some of your members might be interested in reading it. The product of many years of research, it is a history of interactions between or among the Chinese, the Japanese, and the Russians (Imperial Russians, Soviets, and White Russians) in what once was called Manchuria during the last years of the White Russians' presence there. It also documents historical information about the involvement of earlier Russians in the Russian Far East and in Northeast China. To my knowledge, few, if any, other publications discuss the last days of the Russians in Manchuria within the context of both very early, and more recent, historical circumstances. The book is titled "Mitya's Harbin: Majesty and Menace". It has been included in Stanford University's Hoover Institution Collection on Russia and Eurasia and in the University of Hawaii's Russian Collection, as well as being included in other locations. It also was one of fifteen books chosen by the Independent Book Publishers Association for a Public Library Market E-blast of July 13, 2017, and for a College Library Market E-blast of October 26, 2017. The book includes a 47-page chronology of historical events, detailed source information, a bibliography of 178 items, and an index. Much of the history of Harbin's economy relates to Harbin's railway, once named the Chinese Eastern Railway, built by Imperial Russia with Chinese and Russian labor, and the name of which has changed several times since then. The book also explains how Chinese nationalism was growing during this time, while, concurrently, the Chinese and the Russians still managed to work together to build and administer Harbin during some periods. The book is written in English and is available on Amazon.com, on Amazon.co.uk, at the following website: https://edkbooksanddistribution.com/book/mityas-harbin-majesty-menace/ and on other sites. I also have copies of the book available. The book's website is: www.mityasharbin.com, and please feel free to email me at: [email protected] if you have any questions or comments. I appreciate your time. Regards, Lenore Lamont Zissermann, MA, OTR/R (retired occupational therapist), author
