Hendy is a former student of the Barbados Academy (Rudder) and Christchurch High School. After graduating from Christchurch High School in 1970, he was employed by the Ministry of Education; and West Indies Records Ltd, before immigrating to the United States in 1971.
His early employment included retail, marketing and import/export duties. In 1973 Hendy was hired by Sperry Gyroscope Corporation (Division of Sperry Rand Corporation) Great Neck N.Y. Sperry developed, tested and manufactured highly sophisticated and state- of- the- art- hardware and software for the United States Department of Defense, commercial contractors and foreign governments.
He was hired as a Junior Accountant; and an Earned Value Management subject matter expert. He was subsequently transferred to Sperry Clearwater, Florida facility in 1977. His career path included Pricing Analyst, Manufacturing Estimating, Manager of Financial Administration and Contracts, Project/Program Manager, Director of Finance & Business Administration, & General Manager. He possessed many years of experience in managing international, foreign military and domestic contracts. Hendy spearheaded all aspects of complex programs throughout their entire lifecycle; including review of and responding to RFQs and RFPs, Preparation of project proposals, writing and/or reviewing Statements of Work (SOW), and other contract documents; monitoring program trends; and securing new business and program derivative opportunities.
He started his college education at C.W. Post University, Greenvale, New York and subsequently graduated from the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL with degrees in Accounting and Finance, and a minor in Economics.
He received specialty training and certification in Program Management from Defense Acquisition University, Fort Belvoir, VA. In addition, he holds a Masters Certification in Project Management from Villanova University, and is a Certified Earned Value Management Professional. He is a subject matter expert in Federal Acquisition Regulations, contracts management (Federal, Department of Defense (DOD), Direct Commercial Sales (DCS), Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contracts, and International Traffic and Arms Regulations (ITAR).
He is a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI), Defense Acquisition University (DAU) Alumni, National Contracts Management Association (NCMA), Society of International Affairs (SIA), Association for the Advancement of Costs Engineering International (AACEI), and is the current President of the Barbados Association of Tampa Bay; a position he held since 2010.
He married his wife Ingrid in 1978 and together they have two children, Tiffany – a news Director for IHeart Radio in Atlanta, GA; and Ryan – currently serving in the United States Army. Hendy retired from Alliant Techsystems (formerly Sperry Rand Corporation) in 2011 after 38 years of dedicated service.
