Project Objective
The objective of the GlobalWelsh ‘Diaspora Entrepreneurship’ project is to determine and validate ‘best practice’ for the implementation of Wales’s Diaspora Entrepreneurship programme.
Key Focus Areas
• Research how other countries engage with their Diasporas
• Identify and engage with Wales’s 50 most influential Diaspora Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders to determine their capacity and propensity to contribute and help shape the Welsh Diaspora initiative
• Determine the potential benefits to Wales of establishing its own Diaspora organisation
• Organise an inaugural Welsh Diaspora Conference to coincide with the 2015 Hay Festival The event will involve:
o Wales’s Top50 Diaspora & Top50 resident Entrepreneurs
o Project Stakeholders e.g: Welsh Government and private sector sponsors
o Hay Festival Executives
o Others committed to the future development of a Welsh Diaspora
Origins of the Project
The ‘Diaspora Entrepreneurship’ project has its origins within the ‘Welsh Entrepreneurs’ community and has been two years in gestation. It is understood that long term engagement with Wales’s most successful non-resident entrepreneurs and business leaders, will provide opportunities for them to contribute to improving Wales’s economic performance and bring a more international / global approach to business. In addition their contribution will greatly impact Wales’s next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders. There will be other less tangible benefits including exposure to different business cultures that could help us develop a better understanding of the diversity and opportunities within the global economy.
