University of Lusaka UNILUS UNILUS is a Zambian limited company formally incorporated with the Registrar of Companies in 2007. It is wholly owned by two Zambian entrepreneurs, Prof. Pinalo Chifwanakeni, a well experienced professional, and businessman with vast knowledge in training and Mr. George Mpundu Kanja, also an experienced professional in the field of law and has worked as a trainer in the same field. Currently the University is being headed by Prof. Pinalo Chifwanakeni who is the Chairman and Vice Chancellor. He is assisted by an able management team comprising a Deputy Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Chief Accountant, Deans and other Administrative Staff. The University is governed through a council and senate structures.
The University of Lusaka will be embarking and a property development project for its second campus which will be located along the Great East Road in Chongwe Area. The new campus is a critical project to enhance the university reach in providing tertiary education of high quality to both local and international students. The university is projecting an expanded growth in the number of student to be enrolled on its various programs that range from undergraduate to Doctoral programs. The student population is expected to rise from the current 3,500 to 9,000 in the next 5 to 10 years. The university has just received an addition 1,000 applications for the July 2014 intake.
The University is managed through the board of directors, council and senate governance systems. As a private company the board of directors appoints members of the council who oversee and advise on the strategic direction of the university including management and operational matters. The board members are also members of the council. The chancellor of the University is appointed through the council and does not hold any management position but plays an advisory role and superintends over special function and ceremonies held by the university. The senate of the University is mandated to oversee the academic affairs of the university.
