LAND AND HUMAN TO ADVOCATE PROGRESS Founded in 2000 as a private organization, the Land and Human to Advocate Progress (LHAP) serves as a consulting and a partner organization to provide training on sustainable development management issues and know how targeting local Jordanians, non-governmental organizations NGO’s and business cooperatives in the rural and Badia areas of Jordan and the region.LHAP works to influence, encourage and assist local communities throughout Jordan to ensure a proper social and economical progress, and ecological integrity in a democratic arena and respect of human rights.LHAP considers the holistic approach in its work that stems from the mere understanding of sustainable development. It considers the three pillars of sustainable development: the social, economic and environment with the cross-cutting issues that are pre-requisite for sustaianble development advancement, on the top of that is the involvment and participation of women and youth in the advancement of these pillars. LHAP acts as a connecting point through which it brings fund, mobilize and recruit national experts to serve its community.LHAP is widely involved in mobilizng and addressing youth and women in all national prioirty issues among of which raising their civic education and encourage their participation in the political arena in addition to conserving and protecting natural resouces with focus on water being a national priority scarce resource that needs proper management through the involvement of all Jordanians. LHAP is unique among Jordanian CSOs in addressing tackling two additional issues: 1st Chemicals in specific all that related to the four conventions Basel, Rotterdam, Stockholm, Minamata and the Strategic Approach of International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and 2nd on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).In view of LHAP focus on national issues, it is member of several Arab, regional and international entities, venues to consider for serving Jordanians, among of which the International POPs Elimination Network (IPEN) that deal with the four chemical Conventions and SAICM. During the past 18 years, LHAP implemented more than 80 diverse types of projects ( in all discplines), secured jobs for many new graduates, equipped them with skills and knowledge and facilitated for them get a more secured job. LHAP has two groups: a pool of experts and a youth group called " Youth for Sustainable Development –YSD". Both groups are mobilized to serve their communities needs by knowledge and energy.About 90 ( gender balanced) of the YSD groups participated in youth exchange programs mainly in Europe in diverse themes ( environment, energy, food culture, art..etc) for the purpose of strengthening the the bonds between the two coast of the Mediterranean and to act as bridge, too.
LHAP over past 7 years organized each year campaign within the International Lead in Paint Poisoning Prevention Week partronized by the Workd Health Organization (WHO) and the United National Envnironment Program (UNEP). Lead is considered one of the emerging issues listed within SAICM. The latest was this year between 21-28 of October under the patrongage of Dr. Ibrahim Bani Hani, MP and member of the Health and Environment Committee.A series of other projects on hazardous chemicals, mercury, Lead in paint, electronic and electrical waste, Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) were implemented.
