The general purpose of this study is to investigate caste-based discrimination among Sikhs in Punjab. This is done through analysis of various variables namely Sikhism and the caste question, colonialism, land structure, the army, separate gurdwaras, and the dera movement in Punjab. All these dimensions provide us an understanding of caste practice among Sikhs in Punjab and abroad. The Sikh gurus and their teachings were against the caste system.
