EUROMED CHAMPIONS OF MIGRATION EUROMED CHAMPIONS OF MIGRATION The regional project on migration in the Euro-Mediterranean area, "EUROMED Migration III" funded by the European Union with a budget of 5 million euros, is part of a wider programme on the Justice and Home Affairs sector, approved in 2006, comprising two other regional projects in the field of Justice and Police cooperation: "EUROMED Justice III" and "EUROMED Police III".
The Euromed Migration III project is mainly aimed at fostering cooperation on migratory issues between the ENPI South partner countries and EU countries and among ENPI South partner countries themselves, as well as to assist partner countries in their efforts to govern international migration through support to a sustainable migration profile process.
It is based on the Euro-Mediterranean partnership (1995 Barcelona Declaration) and its subsequent evolution within the Five-year Work Programme (2005 Barcelona Summit) which calls for enhanced cooperation in the fields of Migration, Social Integration, Justice and Security. It takes account the 8th and 9th Euro-Mediterranean Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (2006, 2007) which emphasized the need to strengthen the management of migratory flows. Furthermore, it contributes to the implementation of some of the activities approved at the first Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Meeting on Migration (Portugal 2007).
