Liberian Community Association of the Washington DC Metro Area Liberian Community Association of the Washington DC Metro Area The Liberian Community Association of the Washington DC Metro Area, LCA Inc., in collaboration with the Association of Liberian Christian Ministers, ALCM, based in the Washington DC area has launched a campaign to assist with the prevention and seemingly uncontrollable spread of the Ebola Virus Disease in our native Liberia. The Campaign was officially launched on Sunday August 10, 2014 at the Whosoever Will Christian Church in Beltsville, Maryland. At the Launching ceremony a candlelight vigil was held and prayers were said for the souls of those who lost their lives and for the end to the spread of the disease. Several prominent clergymen including the President of ALCM and the venerable Rev. J. Edwin Lloyd, Sr. participated in the event. The LCA-DC President, Madam Nee Allison also made brief remarks. She characterized the Ebola Virus Disease and its incidence in Liberia as a serious threat to not just the Liberian nation but as a menace to the entire world. The LCA-DC and the ALCM are calling on Liberians in the DC metro area as well as friends of Liberia to identify with the people of Liberia by giving in cash and kind. Accordingly, based on a request from the Embassy of Liberia accredited to Washington DC, the Center for Disease Control, CDC, of the United States of America has identified several items that are needed to aid in the containment of the spread of the disease. These items include: gloves (surgical, high risk, rubber (elbow) and examination), goggles, Caps (surgical, disposable), rubber aprons, body bags (adult and pediatric), scrubs, Blood Pressure Cuffs, Thermometer (infrared & thermo focus), isolation gowns, etc. All contribution/donations will be airlifted to Liberia in the soonest possible time to meet the urgent needs of care providers and victims of the disease.
