Irish International Diaspora Centre, Irish Diaspora Irish International Diaspora Centre The dispersal of the Irish throughout the world and their contribution to the economies and cultures of those lands is one of the defining elements of our nation’s past and present. Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company has a vision is to create a world-class Irish-International Diaspora Centre where culture, entertainment and technology combine in celebration and commemoration of the achievements and experiences of the 70 million Irish Diaspora. It is proposed that the Centre will be located within the estate of the 200-year-old harbour, facing out to Dublin Bay and The Irish Sea. It is envisioned that visitors will be encouraged to take an interactive journey through five themes of Irish history and Ireland’s continued contribution to world development, including: The contribution of Irish monastic communities to European enlightenment in the 6th and 7th centuries; The impact of the Vikings and Normans, their integration and contribution to shaping the political and physical environment; The contribution of Giants of Science and literature, such as Richard Boyle and Dean Swift; Emigration in the 19th and 20th centuries Ireland in the 21st century: In a changing Europe, the integration of those from other cultures and the use of science & biotechnology for the social and business economies. Situated in an area of great scenic beauty, Dun Laoghaire has significant cultural and marine leisure attractions. It is anticipated that the Irish International Diaspora Centre will be a significant additional tourist attraction for Dun Laoghaire, Dublin and the country as a whole.
