About BLACK DIASPORA and GERMANY

BLACK DIASPORA and GERMANY, BLACK DIASPORA in GERMANY BLACK DIASPORA and GERMANY Black Diaspora and Germany is an interdisciplinary Young Scholars Network funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) that brings together young scholars working in the fields of Black German, African American, African Diaspora, Critical Whiteness, and Transnational Studies with a focus on Germany. Network members are interested in the establishment and further development of theoretical frameworks and empirical studies in the history and present of the Black Diaspora in Germany. The network was initiated by Christina Oppel and is chaired by Silke Stroh (both University of Muenster). Starting with our inaugural workshop, “Transcending Diaspora,” from December 3 – 4, 2010 in Münster, Germany, we have planned five additional workshops dealing with various aspects related to our theme, from gendering diaspora to the politics of diasporic performance. Ultimately, the proceedings will result in a book. Our workshops are open to the public.
