About Bajan Diaspora Online
Bajan Diaspora Online, Bajan Diaspora Bajan Diaspora Online This Edition of Bajan Diaspora Online is an abbreviated version, as the full version will be published next weekend. I just wanted to give you a run-down of some events associated with this year's Crop Over Festival, which I must say, I totally enjoyed.
For one, the first thing that was blaringly noticeable was the excellent improvement in the musical selections for Crop Over 2015. At every venue, in every store, on the airwaves, and occasionally from motor vehicles of every kind, the pulsating rhythms of the hip-wining tunes were slamming. Much credit and recognition should be given to Rhythmic Poet and Crop Over Music event organizer, Adisa Jelani Andwele (AJA) or Aja Poet, who worked around the clock weeks before Kadooment and weeks after to make sure that things were handled properly and hassle-free....Congrats! for a fantastic job Aja.
One small, but new highlight of Crop Over was an Epic karaoke Competition, which was held at
Coverly in Christ Church. The event was sponsored by popular Brooklyn Club Owner, Tony Barnett, and
our very own Bajan Trivia and Upcoming Events Editor, Mike Remie, a Barbadian living in Brooklyn, NY, was one of the Judges. You can read Mike's column and see videos of how the event came off in this edition.
On a special note, a number of Bajans were disgruntled because the winner of the NY-Bajan team was an American. The competition was open to Bajans and Bajan descentants. Some Bajans participated in the competitions, but in the end, for one reason or other, no Bajans who had the ability, came forward to represent New York. Hopefully, in next year's competition, we will have more representation. I hope you enjoy reading this limited edition of the magazine. You are welcome to submit comments and suggestions about anything you find interesting.
