About Trinidad and Tobago Association of Georgia
Trinidad and Tobago Association of Georgia Trinidad and Tobago Association of Georgia The diverse and complex ways in which people and organizations are required to act and interact in cross-cultural settings generate a multitude of challenges, albeit interspersed with enriching and exciting opportunities. This is especially so if that people or organization represent a community of migrants domiciled in a land that offers opportunities but with a price tag that quite frequently requires one to reach deep down in the pocket of the soul and spirit and shed, quite unwillingly, many of one’s much cherished values, culture and traditions. In such an environment, if the members of the community are to successfully meet the challenges and capitalize on the available opportunities, the need for the camaraderie, advice, guidance and support of one’s fellow nationals becomes strikingly manifest.
It was in such a context that, in November of 2003, a group of very concerned and dedicated nationals of Trinidad and Tobago, recognizing the existing void in the community, took the bold steps of establishing the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Georgia. Through this medium, they hoped to provide the appropriate impetus and mechanism for helping the growing community of Trinidad and Tobago nationals in Georgia rise above the many challenges that they encounter and take full advantage of the opportunities that cross their paths.
The population of Trinidad and Tobago nationals in Georgia has been growing consistently over the last decade. From a population of some 3,000 in 1990, it is estimated that the number of Trinidad and Tobago nationals in Atlanta alone has grown to almost 25,000. (Figures for the whole of Georgia are not currently available). This development has significantly increased the need for an organization that would bring together the disparate elements of the community and mold them into a seamless and formidable body capable of winning widespread respect for its cultural uniqueness, its economic dynamism, its educational pursuits, its political awareness, and its leadership role in a broad array of community development initiatives. The Trinidad and Tobago Associations of Georgia, Inc. is bent on being such an organization.
