Ethiopian Athletes Although soccer remains the most popular sport in Ethiopia, the country is known by the rest of the world as home to some for greatest long distance runners, including legendary Abebe Bikila, who put the country on the athletics map of the world when he won the 1960 Rome Olympics’ marathon barefoot.
