Jamaican Diaspora UK Jamaican Diaspora UK In June 2004, over 250 Jamaicans from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada and Jamaica gathered at the 1st Jamaican Diaspora Conference (in Jamaica) to discuss the key issues affecting Jamaicans at home and abroad. Hosted by the Jamaican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the two distinct accomplishments of this first gathering was of the formation of Jamaican Diaspora Groups in the UK, USA and Canada and the declaration of June 16 each year as Jamaican Diaspora Day. The Jamaican Diaspora UK (JDUK) was subsequently launched in 2005 through a series of events across the country. Seven years later in 2012, the JDUK continues to encourage and facilitate the participation of the Jamaican community throughout the UK. The recently installed Management Board (comprised of Honorary Officers, Regional Coordinators, Advisory Board Representatives and specially co-opted community volunteers). It is a vibrant group, defined in structure and committed to raising awareness of the key concerns for Jamaicans in the UK and Jamaica. The JDUK also seeks to lobby to protect and enhance the interest of Jamaicans in the UK.
