Description: The Haitian-Americans United, Inc. (H.A.U.) is a non-profit organization founded in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to improve the quality of life for Haitians and Haitian-Americans through education, Community Empowerment and cultural development, using an approach where participation and unity are strongly favored. GOAL 1. Promote Civic Education & Community Empowerment. Objectives: A) Educate the Community on Civic Responsibilities and Human Rights Issues. B) Organize a clearinghouse pertaining to Civil and Human Rights Issues. C) Coordinate a pool of organizations and pro bono Lawyers to assist Haitians and Haitian Americans facing Civil Rights Issues. D) Disseminate Civil and Human Rights information through media education, open forums, and Conferences. GOAL 2. Facilitate and coordinate greater collaboration among Massachusetts' Haitian organizations to better address crises and emergencies that directly or indirectly impact the community. Objectives: A) Establish a network of agencies specialized in coordinated responses to natural disaster. B) Conduct periodic gatherings and conferences with agencies and stakeholders involved in these areas. GOAL 3. Facilitate socio-economic empowerment and promote consumer protection in the community. Objectives: A) Facilitate the development of Haitian-American professional and trade organizations, including a Haitian Chamber of Commerce in Massachusetts. B) Conduct periodic educational gatherings and conferences with agencies and stakeholders involved in economic development and consumer protections. C) Research support from City, State, Federal Government and private donors to support economic empowerment initiatives. GOAL 4. Promote Haitian cultural and historical awareness through creating the necessary infrastructures, collaboration and academic and artistic activities. Objectives: A) Initiate innovative ideas that will help allocate resources to sustain the Haitian Independence Day Gala, the Haitian Heritage Month Celebration, including the Unity parade & the Flag raising. B) Facilitate and/or advocate for the creation of a Haitian Cultural Center in New England. C) Promote the Haitian culture by coordinating events of cultural and historical nature with relevant academic and cultural institutions. GOAL 5. Coordinate and/or sponsor activities that integrate our Youth. Objectives: A) Create a specific platform to educate our youth about Haitian history and contributions. B) Identify and support positive youth role models through Arts, Music, etc., C) Develop partnership with other organizations, & institutions (Faith-Based & Academia) as well as the media, to help promote our youth and recognize their talents. D) Maintain and promote a scholarship fund named after General Toussaint Louverture for Haitian and Haitian-American youth. E) Develop and implement an Action Plan that will facilitate more effective interaction among various age groups and help bridge the Cultural Intergenerational gaps in the Community.
