Description: Background and history: In 2003 the federal Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship had a meeting with Africans about employment opportunities. A working group was formed comprising 12 members from different African communities. The working group realised that unemployment was not the only issue impacting on the African communities. In 2005 African community leaders and workers forum was formed and this group also confirmed that unemployment was not the only issue impacting on the African communities. Thus, there were other socio-economic issues needing to be addressed and there was a sense of the significance and effectiveness in working together. These elements led leaders in African communities to form QACC.
